Sanders joined Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant in January 2002. She is a marine educator and USCG licensed captain. She previously worked for the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, the National Aquarium Baltimore and the Academy of Natural Sciences.

She grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and now lives in Savannah with her husband, Jim.
