The EcoScapes Sustainable Landscaping Native Plant Demonstration Garden has received the Clean Sweep Award by Keep Golden Isles Beautiful (KGIB) for the 2015 Fourth Quarter. The EcoScapes garden is one of the hallmarks of the EcoScapes Sustainable Land Use Program.
The completely restored half-acre demonstration garden, located on the UGA Marine Extension facility near historic downtown Brunswick, provides Georgia communities with comprehensive guidance on an integrated, sustainable approach to landscape planning, design and practices. The purpose of the garden is to inspire Georgia sustainable land use community appreciation and stewardship through advocacy, education, outreach and habitat restoration.
“I’m thrilled that the garden and its value has been recognized by our local community,” said Keren Giovengo, EcoScapes program manager. “The purpose of the garden has always been to inspire a sustainable approach to landscaping, but also to highlight the creative potential of EcoScapes principles.”

The KGIB Clean Sweep Committee includes seven local representatives from involved organizations such as Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, the Chamber of Commerce, area garden clubs and the City of Brunswick Downtown Development Authority. Each quarter the KGIB Clean Sweep Committee nominates several local businesses and nonprofit organizations that “go above and beyond to keep their outside premises clean and attractive.”
Voting takes place throughout the quarter as the nominees’ businesses and organizations are monitored by specific judging criteria. KGIB, Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce and the Brunswick News presented the award to Keren Giovengo, EcoScapes program manager, on Wednesday, January 20.
