Active Georgia K-12 teachers will be supported as they create educational materials that will advance marine
science learning opportunities for students.
Proposals should outline a curriculum, teaching unit, or lesson idea that emphasizes physical, chemical or life science with respect to coastal Georgia. They should also incorporate education, research, extension activities or facilities of Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. Awardees will have provided detail for how their proposed project might be implemented in the classroom (including how it might be shared with other teachers).
The McGowan Fellowship in Marine Science Education will be offered as a stipend of $2,000 for Summer 2024. The start and end dates of the fellowship are flexible.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be active K-12 teachers in Georgia.
- Proposed deliverables must be completed by the end of Summer 2024.
- If awarded, applicants must be available to visit the Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidway Island near Savannah during Summer 2024. On-site housing will be provided during the visit. Awardees will be encouraged to explore facilities and observe on-going programs.
