Estuary Extravaganza

September 23, 2017, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

We’re celebrating National Estuaries Week, Sept. 16-23, by hosting an Estuary Extravaganza at the UGA Aquarium on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Estuaries are places where rivers meet the sea, causing fresh and saltwater to mix. Come face-to-face with the animals that live in our local estuaries by going behind-the-scenes of the aquarium, interacting with reptiles, and enjoying family-friendly activities about Georgia’s coastal habitats. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the banks of the Skidaway River and explore our nature trail to experience the sights and sounds of beautiful maritime forest and salt marsh habitats.

Cost: General admission to the UGA Aquarium

Since 1988, National Estuaries Week has celebrated the many ways we benefit, from healthy, thriving coastal ecosystems. All throughout the country, local organizations organize special events, like beach cleanups, hikes, canoe and kayak trips, workshops and more to recognize the special role these places play in our everyday lives. National Estuaries Week is a terrific opportunity to learn more about estuaries and the perfect excuse to spend time on your local bay!
