Join the crew of the R/V Sea Dawg for a sampling trip in Wassaw Sound. We’ll pull a trawl net along the bottom of a tidal river to collect marine specimens. Participants will be able to examine and learn to identify the animals collected. Trawl samples vary, but a typical catch includes fish, horseshoe crabs, squid, stingrays and more. All the data recorded becomes part of Georgia Department of Natural Resources marine inventory record.
This trip is part of the Winter Science Series, an environmental education course for adults at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium. The series consists of three classes that focus on studying fish found in Georgia’s coastal waters. Topics include fish biology, morphology, taxonomy, and diversity.
Classes can be taken individually or as a series. To register, fill out this form. Contact Kayla Clark, kayla270@uga.edu or 912-598-3345 with questions.
