Join UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant for Oyster Roast for a Reason, a fundraising event to celebrate Georgia’s first oyster hatchery. UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant opened the hatchery at the Shellfish Research Lab in 2015 in an effort to revive the once-thriving oyster industry in Georgia.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample oysters harvested from reefs near Skidaway Island, enjoy beer provided by Sweetwater Brewing Company, dance to live music from The Accomplices and take part in a silent auction for great adventures, such as a trawl with UGA naturalists from UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.
Oyster Roast for a Reason will help continue the University of Georgia’s efforts to bring the oyster farming industry back to the Georgia Coast.
