SUMMARY:Hands-on First Aid and CPR Training
DESCRIPTION:This CPR and First Aid Course is tailored to provide commercial fishermen with the life-saving skills to assess and treat injured and sick crew members onboard fishing vessels before emergency personnel arrive. Lunch will be provided. \n\n\n\nPractical skills you will learn: \n\n\n\n\nPatient assessment\n\n\n\nCPR/AED and cardiac event management Narcan use\n\n\n\nMedevac procedures\n\n\n\nAssessing traumatic injuries\n\n\n\nHeat illness treatment\n\n\n\nInfection prevention and proper wound care \n\n\n\nMarine bites\, spines and stings\n\n\n\nSplinting\n\n\n\nStop the Bleed measures\n\n\n\nTreatment for common medical emergencies \n\n\n\nNutrition and hydration\n\n\n\n\nCommercial fishermen who complete this training will earn certification in Adult First Aid/CPR/AED and receive a free first-aid kit customized for fishing vessels. DESCRIPTION:Every Friday\, guests can witness mealtime in the aquarium as marine educators feed a variety of animals. SUMMARY:Snake Sense: Separating Myth from Fact (Skidaway)
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeorgia is home to over 40 species of native snakes\, and only six are venomous! These fascinating reptiles are vital to healthy\, diverse ecosystems and are an important part of our natural heritage.   \n\n\n\nJoin our Coastal Ecology Specialist Kimberly Andrews for an engaging program at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium that will help you confidently distinguish venomous snakes from non-venomous species and share practical tips for minimizing risk around your home. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with live snakes from our teaching collection and ask plenty of questions.   \n\n\n\nThis interactive session will challenge common myths and leave you better prepared for future encounters with these often-misunderstood animals.  \n\n\n\nRegistration is required for participants ages 3 and up and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. This program is designed for ages 5 and up\, but younger children are welcome. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Tickets are nonrefundable.  \n\n\n\nIf you have questions or need special accommodations for this program\, contact Shannon Matzke at shannon.matzke@uga.edu or call 912-598-2446.
