DESCRIPTION:Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a family-friendly Ocean to Table program focused on Georgia shrimp. Shrimp are a local favorite because of their mild taste and delicate texture. During this hands-on program\, you’ll learn about shrimp biology\, seafood safety and nutrition from Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant experts. Kids and adults who love to cook and love seafood will enjoy fun shrimp-themed activities\, including a shrimp peeling race. The program wraps up with a cooking demonstration led by our in-house Chef Earl Jones\, followed by lunch featuring a delicious local shrimp dish. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. SUMMARY:Sea Dawg Trawl
DESCRIPTION:Register\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClimb aboard the UGA Aquarium’s research vessel\, the R/V Sea Dawg\, for a trawl in Wassaw Sound! Participants will actively contribute to marine sampling efforts by working alongside marine educators to collect\, sort\, and identify a variety of marine organisms collected as part of the trawl. All data collected contributes to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ marine inventory record\, supporting long-term monitoring of local species. \n\n\n\nThis program also introduces Trawl to Trash\, an initiative aimed at preventing marine debris from entering coastal ecosystems. Participants will learn about the negative impacts of marine debris on wildlife and habitats and explore the use of Trawl to Trash bags\, created from recycled shrimp nets\, to collect and remove debris. Each participant will have the opportunity to construct their own bag to take home and use for collecting trash along Georgia’s coast. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. SUMMARY:Marine Debris Cleanup on Wassaw
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHelp Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant to clean up the north end of Wassaw Island! This program happens just in time for spring cleaning to prepare for the arrival of nesting sea turtles and shorebirds. Participants will travel by boat to embark on the cleanup journey after an informative introductory presentation on marine debris. We will be joined by Shorebird Biologist Allie Hayser from Manomet Conservation Sciences who will provide tips on how to protect visiting shorebirds while enjoying coastal areas. \n\n\n\nParticipants will be provided with buckets and gloves. They will also receive their very own Trawl to Trash bag! \n\n\n\nRegistration is required and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. DESCRIPTION:Spend a few hours exploring the marsh with a marine scientist! Join us for a program featuring Sydney Williams\, Nature-Based Solutions Specialist with Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. Williams holds a doctorate in environmental engineering from the University of Florida\, where she studied the role of ribbed mussels in salt marsh ecosystems. \n\n\n\nThe program takes place at the UGA Aquarium on Skidaway Island\, where Williams will begin with an overview of her salt marsh research. Participants will then travel by boat to nearby salt marsh sites\, so be prepared to get muddy! Along the way\, experts will share insights into how Georgia’s salt marshes improve water quality\, provide critical habitat and help mitigate coastal erosion. \n\n\n\nRegistration is required and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. Children ages 10 and up are welcome but must be accompanied by a registered adult. SUMMARY:Bloomwatch Tybee: Monitoring Plants and Pollinator
DESCRIPTION:Join Sea Grant–funded researchers from Georgia Southern University for an engaging exploration of Tybee Island. Learn about plants and pollinators\, the role of native bees in coastal ecosystems\, and how climate and human activity influence these vital ecosystem processes. \n\n\n\nThe program begins at Jaycee Park (adjacent to Tybee Island Guard House)\, where researchers will introduce plant–pollinator relationships with live and preserved specimens. Participants will then explore the island’s native and landscaped plants through guided\, field-based learning. Using a variety of field research techniques and the iNaturalist mobile app\, participants will observe Tybee’s plants and learn how to monitor their responses to human activity. \n\n\n\nThis beginner-friendly program is designed for participants ages 15 and up\, with no prior experience needed. The program is free\, but registration is required to hold your spot. All ages are welcome\, but children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Spend the afternoon exploring our exhibits before learning what it’s like to care for our ambassador animals during tours led by aquarium staff. Participants will gain access to areas not typically open to the public. Animal feeding might also be part of the tour.     \n\n\n\nRegistration is required for all participants ages 3 and up and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. All ages are welcome\, but children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. SUMMARY:Discovering Your Backyard Marsh
DESCRIPTION:Georgia has an estimated 378\,000 acres of salt marsh\, one of the most extensive and productive habitats of its type in the U.S. that serve as the primary nursery for many species of fish\, crabs\, shrimps\, and the birds that feed on them. The salt marsh provides storm protection\, opportunities for recreation and improves water quality\, but is also under threat due to sea level rise. The South Atlantic Salt Marsh Initiative brings together partners from North Carolina to Florida to identify strategies for sustaining one million acres of salt marsh across the four-state region\, with Georgia’s marshes at its heart. Join Dr. Michelle Covi\, marsh ecologist and 2026 chair of the SASMI Partnership Council\, to learn more about the salt marsh in our own backyard and the work underway to protect and restore this vital habitat. \n\n\n\nThis program takes place at the UGA Aquarium on Skidaway Island\, where we’ll begin with an overview of the South Atlantic Salt Marsh Initiative. After the presentation\, we’ll head out to the Jay Wolf Nature Trail to discover the marsh up close\, viewing the plant and animal inhabitants that make up this ecosystem. Bring clothes and shoes that can get muddy\, along with your sense of wonder and adventure! \n\n\n\nRegistration is required for participants ages 3 and up and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. Content is best suited for ages 13 and up\, but all ages are welcome. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Tickets are nonrefundable.

SUMMARY:Rethinking Runoff in Brunswick
DESCRIPTION:Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant is teaming up with the City of Brunswick and Keep Golden Isles Beautiful to launch the Love Where You Live campaign\, designed to encourage residents to get involved in caring for green spaces that mitigate flooding and protect water quality in local neighborhoods. \n\n\n\nAs part of the campaign\, kiosks have been placed in public areas where green infrastructure projects have been installed to help filter and clean stormwater before it reaches our marshes. The kiosks include grab-and-go supplies\, like trash bags and gloves\, that people can use to help remove litter before it becomes pollution! \n\n\n\nTogether\, we can keep Brunswick beautiful. \n\n\n\nIf you are interested in learning more about this project\, join us at the Roosevelt Harris\, Jr. Senior Citizens Center to learn about green infrastructure and how you can give back to your community! \n\n\n\nThis program is best suited for adults\, but all ages are welcome.
