DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Ocean to Table program focused on Georgia grown clams! These shellfish are delicious\, nutritious\, and sustainably grown in Georgia’s coastal estuaries. During this hands-on program at our Brunswick office\, you’ll learn about clam biology\, seafood safety and nutrition from Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant experts. You will also be able to engage in conversation with local shellfish farmers from Shellbluff Clams\, who raise northern hard clams near Sapelo Island. Shellbluff Clams is committed to growing seafood that gives back to the local ecosystem and community. The program will wrap up with a cooking demonstration and tasting of a recipe made with Shellbluff Clams’ freshly harvested shellfish.     \n\n\n\nRegistration is required. Tickets are nonrefundable.

SUMMARY:The Secret Life of Oysters
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on program takes you behind the scenes of oyster research and offers an up-close look at how these incredible animals shape our coast.  \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin with a guided tour of the UGA Shellfish Research Lab\, where you’ll see how oyster seed is spawned and grown for local farmers. Then\, head to the plankton lab at the UGA Aquarium for a hands-on oyster dissection. An educator will guide you through the oyster’s anatomy\, showing how its filtering system works\, and you’ll even create a wet mount to view under the microscope. Join us for a rare\, magnified glimpse at this fanatic filter feeder in action!   \n\n\n\nRegistration is required for participants ages 3 and up\, and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. This program is best suited for children ages 10 and up\, but all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Strollers are not permitted in the back of the aquarium but can be stored in the lobby during the program. Tickets are nonrefundable.

Spend the afternoon exploring our exhibits before learning what it’s like to care for our ambassador animals during tours led by aquarium staff. Participants will gain access to areas not typically open to the public. Animal feeding might also be part of the tour.     \n\n\n\nRegistration is required for all participants ages 3 and up and includes admission to the UGA Aquarium. All ages are welcome\, but children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
