Give to UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.
Your gifts to UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant support marine education, environmental outreach and coastal research. For more than 50 years, we have taught hundreds of thousands of people about our state’s unique coastal and marine ecosystems. We also work hand-in-hand with local governments and coastal industries to help build sustainable, resilient coastal communities and economies. Your gift today will help protect Georgia’s coastal resources and educate future generations in ocean literacy and environmental leadership.

Giving Priorities
Sponsor an animal or exhibit
Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s aquarium on Skidaway Island, built in the 1970s, hosts nearly 30,000 visitors each year. Animal ambassadors teach visitors about marine biology, coastal ecology, and the importance of the natural world to audiences of all ages. Your support will enable the aquarium to enhance its teaching spaces as well as provide improved habitats for our reptiles and amphibians.

Free programming for K-4 students
For many young students, a visit to the aquarium is their first encounter with Georgia’s marine life and coastal habitats. Your support will enable K-4 students statewide to experience the UGA Aquarium, sparking curiosity and strengthening environmental literacy at an early age.

Hatchery production at the Shellfish Research Lab
Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant’s Shellfish Research Lab is enhancing the oyster farming industry in Georgia by producing high-quality oyster seed, studying farming practices and providing technical assistance to farmers. Critical equipment upgrades are needed to expand seed production and strengthen the industry, which provides both economic opportunities and environmental benefits. Your support will help us restore Georgia’s oyster industry and help create jobs throughout Georgia’s coastal region.

Supporting Student Work
Our coastal facilities and faculty experts provide meaningful internships for college students in outreach, education, science communication, stormwater management, and fisheries research. These experiences create pathways to professional careers and help prepare the next generation of coastal leaders. Support is needed to cover housing and stipends, which are both critical needs for students completing internships along the coast. Your support will enable them to travel with faculty and staff into the communities we serve so that they can see firsthand the need, issue or problem, build the critical skills essential to their careers, and earn valuable real-world experience.

Planned giving
