The quarterly meeting of the UGA Board of Visitors was held on February 11 in Atlanta. This group, which is made up of UGA alumni from across the state, attended a panel discussion featuring representatives from the Small Business Development Center, UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.

UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant director Mark Risse and his staff talked about the state’s first oyster hatchery at the Marine Extension Shellfish Research Laboratory on Skidaway Island. The oysters served during the reception were among the first single oysters produced on the Georgia coast.

The Board of Visitors serves to establish new relationships and strengthen long-standing ties between the state’s largest and most comprehensive research university and its elected officials, business leaders, and community organizations.

Members of the board meet four times a year to learn about UGA’s accomplishments in teaching, research and service.
