McGowan Fellowship

The McGowan Fellowship funds K-12 teachers to develop innovative and interactive marine science education curriculum and classroom materials.

Interested educators can submit proposals that outline a curriculum, teaching unit, or lesson idea that emphasizes physical, chemical or life science with respect to coastal Georgia. They should also incorporate education, research, extension activities or facilities of Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. Proposals should include information about how the project will be implemented in the classroom (including how it might be shared with other teachers).

The McGowan Fellowship in Marine Science Education will be offered as a stipend of $2,000. The start and end dates of the fellowship are flexible.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be active K-12 teachers in Georgia.
• If awarded, applicants must be available to visit the Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidway Island near Savannah. On-site housing will be provided during the visit. Awardees will be encouraged to explore facilities and observe education programs.
