Georgia’s coastline is home to rich seafood resources that support coastal communities, local economies, and healthy diets across the state.

Shrimp, crab, flounder, and many other species are harvested from Georgia waters and processed by a robust network of seafood businesses. Together, these fisheries and processors provide fresh, local seafood while sustaining jobs and coastal heritage.

Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant supports Georgia’s seafood industry and consumers by offering training programs, partnering on research, sharing regulatory updates, and connecting networks of fishermen, processors, retailers, and communities.

Glynn County Seafood Advisories & Cookbook

Brunswick has a strong industrial past, and manufacturing activities have impacted the marsh environment. Eating seafood is healthy and it is part of the coastal culture, but, when fishing for your own catch, it is important to know which species can be eaten frequently, and which should be dinner less often or not at all. Through a collaboration with the Environmental Justice Advisory Board in Brunswick, materials were designed to help explain the Glynn County fish advisories. The effort includes a community cookbook series that uses recipes alongside educational information to promote how to safely enjoy Georgia’s local seafood cuisine.

Seafood Programming

We offer programs throughout the year such as “Ocean to Table” and “From Farm to Reef” that introduce audiences to the seafood of the Southeast and the people who harvest, grow and prepare it. Participants can tour oyster farms, learn about a day in the life of a local shrimper, and take part in hands-on cooking demonstrations. Check our event calendar to see what seafood programs are coming up.
