Participants of the Vivian H. Fisher PSO Leadership Academy recently visited the Georgia coast to learn about UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant.

Staff Kelly Spratt and Madeleine Russell shared information about the organizations’ coastal resiliency program, including the national award-winning Tybee Island Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan.

Participants also learned about beach nourishment, shoreline stabilization, stormwater retrofit, elevating of well pumps and living shorelines. They visited the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium on Skidaway Island and enjoyed a trawl along the Georgia coast.

The PSO Leadership Academy gives faculty and staff with strong leadership potential an opportunity to cultivate leadership skills while developing a deeper understanding of the scope and reach of public service and outreach at UGA. Mona Behl, associate director of Georgia Sea Grant, is a member of the 2015-2016 PSO Leadership Academy.
