UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant hosted the first biennial Georgia Coastal Research Council Symposium. The event was an opportunity for Georgia Sea Grant and Coastal Incentive Grant-funded research to be presented to the general public and local decision makers.

Topics included hurricane risks in coastal Georgia, regional wastewater planning, pharmaceutical impacts on water quality, black gill in Georgia shrimp, climate adaptation planning and many more critical issues linked to the environmental and economic health of the region. More than 70 people attended. The next day, communications and outreach faculty and staff met with scientists to assess how to extend the Georgia Sea Grant-funded projects, analyzing potential audiences and strategies for connecting research findings with policy actions and educational efforts.
