University of Georgia Marine Extension staff mentored Islands High School students on coastal research as part of the Legacy Research Program. UGA Marine Extension teamed with the Ogeechee Audubon Society to give forty-eight students guidance while they presented their work in poster format or power point presentations.
Topics involved animal behavior, conservation biology and ecology. Led by Megan Heberle, a teacher at Islands High School, the Legacy Research Program is designed so that seniors pass down their research projects to future seniors in order to continue building upon their efforts.
In many coastal areas, data is needed to establish baseline information, especially with future changes in climate and weather patterns.
